Colchester, Vt. - Two more goals off the foot of
Kerianne Scorce powered the 18th-ranked Adelphi University women's soccer team to its fourth straight shutout on Saturday afternoon, as the Panthers blanked Saint Michael's to conclude a weekend road trip, 3-0.
The junior forward, who now has a team-best six goals on the season and has scored in each of the Panthers' last three games, also had a hand in the third and final goal for the Brown and Gold (6-0, 5-0 NE10) on the afternoon, assisting on
Amanda Rainey's tally in the 83rd minute.
Scorce's first tally was the lone goal in the first half, as she put Adelphi ahead of the Purple Knights (1-4-1, 0-3-1 NE10) in the 15th minute.
After four previous shots by the Panthers missed their mark, Scorce broke the ice with a header past Saint Michael's keeper Liz Vallatini to break the ice.
The margin remained 1-0 for the rest of the first half, though Adelphi out-shot the home team by an 11-2 margin. Vallatini made five of her six saves for the contest over the first 45 minutes of action.
Though both clubs took just four shots in the second half, Adelphi was efficient with theirs, with three coming on goal and two making it past Vallatini.
Scorce's second tally of the game came in the 69th minute, as she buried the ball in the right side of the cage, before Rainey cleaned up a rebound off of Scorce's saved attempt to cap the Adelphi scoring.
Rookie keeper
Sarah Hofmeier turned in another clean sheet for the Panthers, making four saves in 90 minutes.
Adelphi now returns home for its next three games, beginning with a 6 p.m. contest against Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
