Women's Soccer Blanks Saint Anselm in NE10 Action, 3-0

Garden City, N.Y. - Two goals by Kerianne Scorce and an opening tally from Amanda Rainey was more than enough offense to pace the Adelphi University women's soccer team to its fourth victory in four games played this season on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers (4-0, 2-0 NE10) blanked Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Anselm in their third shutout in the early season, and second straight on home turf.

Rainey's first goal of the year put the Brown and Gold ahead early, as she took a long pass from Taylor Sipos at midfield into the back of the Hawks' net in the eighth minute, finishing off over Payton Wildrick in a one-on-one opportunity after the visiting goalie had already made two saves in the first six minutes.

The junior's tally was the lone goal in the opening half, as Wildrick made seven first-half saves on nine Panther shots to keep her team in the game. Adelphi's relentless offensive pressure took its toll eventually, however, as Scorce scored twice after missing a peanlty kick wide right in the 54th minute.

Less than 60 seconds later, Taylor Iacono found a streaking Scorce on the outside of the goal box, and the junior forward buried a header in the space between Wildrick and the far post to finally double the lead. In the 72nd minute, Scorce scored once more - this time with her foot - as she finished off another one-on-one chance against Wildrick after a long chipped pass from Erica Bleimeyer at midfield.

Sarah Hofmeier earned her fourth win of the season in goal, making four saves in 82 minutes, while fellow rookie Krista Aliscio made her collegiate debut with two saves in the final eight. Defensively, Mia York also helped preserve a clean sheet, as the sophomore cleared out a ball on the goal line in the last minute of the contest, which seemed destined for the net after Aliscio made a diving stop.

Adelphi hits the road on Tuesday for its next NE10 contest at Bentley in Waltham, Mass. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
