Colchester, Vt. - A big first half and a season-high in scoring led the Adelphi University men's soccer team to a 6-2 win at Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers (3-1-1, 2-0 NE10) scored four times over the opening 45 minutes to set the tone in a game where they held a 29-9 edge in total shots by the final whistle.
The six goals is the most scored by Adelphi in a game since Oct. 8, 2016, when the Panthers scored a 6-1 win at fellow NE10 foe Stonehill College.
Though there were six different scorers for the Brown and Gold in the contest,
James Thristino,
Mads Michaelsen and
Stephen Megaloudis all tallied at least two points.
Thristino assisted on
Tommy Speed's opening goal - a header in just the third minute - before scoring the fifth goal and assisting on the sixth for a season-best four points.
The now-senior forward had his career-best of six points, behind three goals, in the aforementioned last six-goal effort as a sophomore.Â
Michaelsen and Megaloudis each recorded two assists in the win as well, as all six of the Brown and Gold's goals had at least one touch before the finish. Also scoring their first goals of the season were
Ofek Pinto,Â
Paolo Marciano and
John Aydogan, whileÂ
Taylor Kaczynski added his second of the year.
In goal,
Matt Apicella recorded two second-half saves, but it was Saint Michael's goalie duo of Leland Gazo and Gabriel Pineda who split the action to tally a staggering 17 stops.
Adelphi is back on the road on Wednesday, Sept. 19 as it travels to the University of New Haven for a 7 p.m. league contest.Â
