Kutztown, Pa. - In its first road match of the season, the Adelphi University field hockey team fell to perennial powerhouse and non-conference foe, Kutztown Univeristy, on Wednesday evening, 3-0.
Kutztown (3-1) got off to a hot start against the Panthers (0-2), scoring its first of three goals just under five minutes into the contest. Kyra Wozniak netted her fifth goal of the season after dribbling down the right side to put the hosts in the lead. Four minutes later, the Bears increased their lead 2-0 with a goal by Mackenzie Fuhrman following a penalty corner.
Wozniak later scored her second goal of the night in the 19th minute, giving Kutztown a 3-0 advantage over Adelphi in the first half. Â
The Panthers held off the home team for the remainder of the game, but were unable to break through staunch defense by the home team.
Freshman goalkeeper Leah Savage posted a season-high of nine saves on the night, making her second career start against the Golden Bears.
The Brown and Gold will open up Northeast-10 play on Saturday, Sept. 15 against LIU Post. The game is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start. Â
