Field Hockey Falls 4-1 to Bentley in 2018 Opener

Garden City, N.Y. - In its opening contest of 2018, the Adelphi University field hockey team fell to Northeast-10 Conference foe Bentley University on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action, 4-1.

Despite scoring first in the content, Adelphi surrendered four unanswered goals and was out-scored 3-0 in the second half.

Adelphi came out hot on the visitors, scoring the first goal of the game in the 13th minute as junior Elissa Frein found the back of the net from the right side into the bottom left corner off a pass form Danielle Powers. However, the Falcons responded 10 minutes later to tie the game at 1-1 before halftime.

Bentley increased its lead to 2-1 just three minutes into the second half as Morgan Van Epps of Bentley drove down the right side of the field, and put the back in the back of the cage. Eight minutes later, Van Epps scored her second goal of the match, putting it past Adelphi goalie Leah Savage from the left side. The Falcons' final goal on Saturday came from Tess Anderson's stick - her second of the game - from the left side into the cage.

Both teams held even with 12 shots and seven on goal, while freshman Savage tallied three saves for the Panthers.

The Brown and Gold begin its two-game road swing beginning with Kutztown University on Sept. 12. The non-conference contest will be played under the lights in Kutztown, Pa. at 7 p.m.
