Garden City, N.Y. - A goal in each half led the Georgian Court University Lions to a 2-0 victory over the Adelphi University men's soccer team on Saturday night, in the final crossover game of the season-opening Adelphi Invitational.
A penalty kick goal for the visiting Lions in the 23rd minute opened the scoring for Georgian Court, as Daniel Vicente beat
Matt Apicella one-on-one for the early lead.
That advantage doubled in the 48th minute, as the Lions' Louis Silva took a cross from the center of the box from Nicholas Moran into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.
The Panthers were not without chances, however, as they out-shot the Lions in each period. The Brown and Gold held a 10-6 edge in shots over the first 45 minutes, and also held a 6-4 advantage in the second half.
However, Jamie Hickey proved well up to the task in goal for the Lions, making seven saves in the contest overall. Apicella made five total.
Adelphi held a 10-3 edge in corner kicks in the match, but were unable to convert those opportunities into goals.
The Panthers will look to get back on the winning track in more non-conference action this weekend, as they welcome the Millersville Marauders to Motamed Field on Saturday at 2 p.m.
