Wilmington, Del. - Freshman
Jacklyn Lada tallied her first collegiate goal in the 52nd minute to lead the 15th-ranked Adelphi University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Wilmington in non-conference action on Friday afternoon.
The native of Flushing, N.Y., who scored 26 goals in her final season for the Francis Lewis Patriots last year, broke a scoreless tie in the second half as she took a misplayed cross into the back of the Wildcats' net.
Adelphi (1-0) took nine shots total in the contest, with four on goal, but it was Wilmington's Cassidy McErlin who took the first shot for either club in the contest, missing wide left in the 21st minute.
The Panthers' first shot of the game came in the 26th minute, as
Alexsis Weiser took back-to-back attempts for the Brown and Gold then, and in the 29th minute.
The sophomore missed wide left, and then wide right, and
Kerianne Scorce also notched an effort in the 39th minute before the first half ended scoreless.
In goal, another rookie in
Sarah Hofmeier recorded her first collegiate shutout in her first start, as she faced just two shots over 90 minutes.
The Panthers get their home schedule underway up next, as they host the Mercy College Mavericks at 6 p.m. on Sept. 6.
