6/8/2018 9:00:00 AM

Dallas - After making history for the Northeast-10 Conference, Brenna Martini has now made history for Adelphi in the CoSIDA Academic All-American program.

The senior infielder became the first Panther to be honored for her play on the field and in the classroom three times in her career, as she was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday.

The first softball player to be named NE0 Player of the Year in three consecutive seasons, Martini was honored as the league's Woman of the Year in its season-ending banquet on Monday night

Martini had been one of five Panthers in school history to be a two-time Academic All-American alongside Chris Armas (men's soccer, 1992 & 1993), Taylor Groth (women's soccer, 2014 & 2015), Jacqueline Jahelka (women's lacrosse, 2015 & 2016) and Michael Coffey (2017 & 2018), but is the first to be selected three times.

CoSIDA began the Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors.

Martini, who graduated in May with a degree in physical education, held a 3.838 GPA in her college career, and was a three-time All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA).

Twenty-two of the 33 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Softball teams have at least a 3.90 G.P.A., with 12 student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.93.

The Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Softball teams have six repeat performers from 2017, including Martini: Alyssa Williamson (Merrimack College), Abi Corbett (Missouri Southern State University), Hannah Coursey (Georgia College), Christa Reisinger (Truman State University), and Sara Ercolani (West Chester University).
