Cicileo Slams Three Homers, Baseball Streaks to Seventh Straight

Garden City, N.Y. - Lawrence Cicileo's hot bat powered the Adelphi University baseball team to an 8-4 win over the Pace University Setters on Wednesday afternoon, as Adelphi closed out a seven-game homestand unbeaten.

The sophomore outfielder led Adelphi (15-11-1, 6-5 NE10) to a key divisional win with his bat, hitting home runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings, slamming all three to center field in consecutive at-bats. Cicileo finished the day with three hits, three RBIs, and three runs scored. He became the 20th player in all Division II and first in the East Region to achieve the feat this season.

Lucas Terwilliger also went 3-for-4 alongside Cicileo, tallying two RBIs, while Brett Malm went 2-for-5 and also knocked in a pair.

The Panthers fell behind the Setters (12-10-1, 6-6 NE10) 3-0 in the second inning, as an RBI single by Greg Tsourprakos opening the scoring for the visitors. Two batters later, a double to center field brought around two more Pace runners, but the Blue and Gold did not score again until the eighth inning off a solo homer by Michael Barbato.

Adelphi came out hot in the third inning, getting hits off the first four batters and Pace's first four pitches. Cicileo kicked things off with his first round-tripper to get the Panthers on the board, 3-1, before base hits by Steven Withers and Tyler Becker, followed by an RBI double from Malm tied the game, 3-3.

Two batters later, Terwilliger doubled to left field for an RBI double, driving Malm home and giving the Panthers their first lead. Immediately after, Brandon Morse's single to left field brought Terwilliger home, putting the hosts up 5-3. The Panthers finished the third inning with six hits on nine at-bats.

In the fourth, Cicileo led off for the home team once again, roping his second homer over the centerfield wall, giving Adelphi a three-run edge over the Setters. In his next at-bat, with one out in the sixth, tthe sophomore circled bases for the third time and put Adelphi up 7-3. The Panthers' final run came in the seventh after Tyler Warshefskie doubled to right center and scored on an RBI single from Terwilliger.

Tom Ambrosino claimed the win in relief of Max Steele o improve him to 2-0 on the season. The sophomore held Pace to zero runs in five innings pitched, including six strikeouts.

The Brown and Gold will travel to Albany, N.Y. this weekend for a series with the College of Saint Rose, beginning with a double header on Saturday at noon.
