Men's Lacrosse Drops #5 Pace in Top-10 Clash

Pleasantville, N.Y. - A three-goal fourth quarter sealed the deal for No. 6 Adelphi men's lacrosse when they took a 12-6 decision from No. 5 Pace University Wednesday evening.

Dylan Crossan led the charge for Adelphi (5-1, 4-0 NE10), finishing the contest with five points behind three goals and two assists. Ian Kirby followed suit with two goals and three points as three other Panthers each scored a couple of goals. In between the pipes, Brendan McDougal won his fourth Northeast-10 matchup, finishing with a season-high 11 saves.  For the Setters (4-2, 3-1 NE10) Bradley Paterson was the lone player with two tallies, with four others finding the back of the net in the loss.

Crossan and James Hall teamed up to take a quick 2-0 lead in the first quarter of top-10 action. The home team was able to cut the deficit to one on their next possession, but Hall added his second of the contest with just over two minutes to go to maintain their advantage. Pace scored two goals in each frame of the first half as Crossan and John Arcidiacono put up three more to keep it a three-goal game at the half.

Back-to-back turnovers for Pace, caused by Justin Napolitano and Nicolas Racalbuto set up Kirby to score the first tally in the third quarter to double the home team lead. McDougal made three big stops in the following minutes, but could not stop a shot from Peter Bashar at 4:39, which happened to be the only goal from the hosts in the period. Michael Osmundsen added another for the Brown and Gold, giving the visitors a four-goal cushion with one quarter to play.

Although the Setters struck first in the fourth quarter, momentum did not swing in their favor as Kirby and Quintin McKenna found the back of the cage next for the Panthers. Late penalties and turnovers plagued the home team down the stretch as Adelphi added one more to remain perfect in NE10 action with a 12-6 decision.

The Panthers will return to their home turf on Saturday, March 31 when they host Saint Michael's College at 3:00 p.m. They are the second set of an NE10 dip, featuring the women's matchup at noon on Motamed Field.
