West Haven, Conn. - Behind a sixth consecutive win, the Adelphi University women's lacrosse program remained perfect in league action after picking up a 19-4 decision over the University of New Haven on Tuesday evening.
Kole Pollock was the leading scorer in the landslide win in a clash of IWLCA Top 10 teams, matching her career-high and posting a new season-best with five goals, adding two assists for seven points.
Also scoring above a hat trick was
Michele Scannell, who nears the 100 career-goal mark as she added four this evening.
Beth Ann Pierce played a vital role, winning a team-high six draw controls as
Emma Lemanski finished off her fourth straight win between the pipes.
No. 8 New Haven (3-2, 2-1 NE10) was the first to light up the scoreboard with a tally less than 10 minutes after the start of the first half, courtesy of a Samantha Galler goal. Pollock scored the next two, without any assistance to quickly form a lead that the Panthers (6-1, 5-0 NE10) never relinquished. Her back-to-back goals sparked a five-goal spurt that ended with an unassisted
Alyssa Gillespie goal.
The Chargers were the next to score but the following possession saw scores from Pollock and a season-first from
Kateri Brooks, which pushed Adelphi out to a 7-2 advantage. Down the stretch the teams traded goals, but the visiting team still led by five at the half.
The visitors caused seven turnovers alone in the second half, which helped keep New Haven scoreless for 30 complete minutes. With just four shots in the second frame, the Chargers were stopped on three separate occasions by Lemanski, who finished with four saves for the contest. Scannell was the first to score in the second half, her first of two. Also scoring two were
Christina Ferrara,
Chelsea Abreu, and
Allison Stackpole, who contributed to 10 goals that resulted in a 19-4 decision for Adelphi.
The No. 2 women's lacrosse program is back in action on Saturday, March 24 when they take on Assumption College at 1:00 p.m.
