#2 Women's Lacrosse Bests Assumption in 22-17 Decision

Worcester, Mass. – With the help of a career-high six goals from Lena Riportella, the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team came out victorious in a 22-17 decision at Assumption College Saturday afternoon.

Riportella finisihed the game with eight points, adding two helpers to her six goals as Kole Pollock and Beth Ann Pierce both chipped in five goals apiece. Alison Johnson did her part in adding five assists of her own as Emma Lemanski and Hailey Peterson split time between the pipes, collecting 10 saves as a duo.

The Panthers wasted no time getting on the board with a tally just 15 seconds into the contest, courtesy of Lena Riportella. Her opening goal sparked a 7-0 run for Adelphi in which the trio inclsuing Pollock and Pierce all made contributions. The teams traded goals as Assumption (4-3, 1-3 NE10) broke the silence at 23:48, while also adding two more before the game was 10 minutes in. Pierce netted her ninth of the season following a man-up possession for the Greyhounds, but the hosts cut into their deficit, scoring the next three.

Allison Stackpole was the last to strike in the first half giving the visitors a six-goal cushion, finding a way past Kyra Goucher, who only finished with four saves in the win.

The hosts put back six of the first 10 goals throughout the first 15 minutes of the second frame, cutting their deficit to four. Christina Ferrara and Jillian Graziano netted their firsts of the afternoon in that stretch, as the Greyhounds attempted their comeback. Alyssa Gillespie's goal with 10:03 left in regulation pushed the lead back out to five, and jump started a three-goal push from Adelphi to keep their opponents at bay.

Assumption had the last word however, scoring two under the six minute mark, but Lemanski registered two saves in the closing two to help her team improve to 6-0 in conference action.

Women's lacrosse returns to their home turf on Wednesday, March 28 as they host Pace University at 6:00 p.m.
