#9 Men's Lacrosse Scores Top 20, NE10 Win Over #17 Saint Anselm, 15-8

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team scored a big win on two fronts on Saturday afternoon, taking a Northeast-10 Conference victory against the Hawks of Saint Anselm College on Motamed Field, 15-8.

The matchup featured not only two teams ranked in the most recent USILA Division II Coaches' Poll, with Adelphi at No.9 and Saint Anselm at No.17, but NCAA Division II's leading goal-scorer in Saint Anselm's Ryan Hesseltine, who scored five goals in the Hawks' lone game prior to Saturday's affair, and the leading facilitator in Adelphi's Dylan Crossan, who averaged 4.67 assists per game coming into Saturday's contest.

Ultimately, it was Crossan's Panthers (3-1, 2-0 NE10) who jumped out to a commanding 4-0 lead in the early going, courtesy of four different goal scorers, and never trailed from there.

Crossan accounted for a game-high eight points on six helpers and two goals of his own, while Ian Kirby scored a game-best four with an assist for five points. In total, seven players scored for Adelphi and five tallied at least two goals, despite being out-shot by a 38-34 margin.

Hesseltine scored just twice on five shots for the Hawks (1-1, 0-1 NE10), but also turned the ball over twice, as his teammate Matt Ward scored a pair of goals on three shots.

Michael OsmundsenAngelo Caiazzo, Kirby and John Arcidiacono accounted for the first four goals of the game, as Adelphi's last two scores were a result of man-up possessions. Saint Anselm came storming back to end the opening quarter on a 3-0 run to cut its deficit to a single goal, and using momentum from the first quarter, Hesseltine knotted the game at 4-4 with his tally to begin the second frame.

However, the Brown and Gold responded in a big way, scoring nine unanswered to take control of the contest. Both Kirby and Nicolas Racalbuto scored hat tricks in the scoring run, which spanned from 9:06 in the second to 8:15 in the third.

For the game, Brendan McDougal made seven saves in his 54:30 in the cage for Adelphi, before Kevin Rice relieved him and stopped a pair of shots as well. At the faceoff X, Mark Andrejack won 16 of the 24 he took, and picked up a game-best 11 ground balls.

Adelphi is back in action next Saturday afternoon, March 24, when it hosts Southern New Hampshire in a 1 p.m. NE10 contest.
