Garden City, N.Y. - Kicking off a Northeast-10 double feature with the men's team on Motamed Field, the second-ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse team saw 10 different players score in a 17-4 win over Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday afternoon.
Beth Ann Pierce,
Kole Pollock and
Michele Scannell each scored hat tricks in the victory, combining for five ground balls and five draw controls. Three others saw their point totals reach four, as
Allison Stackpole,
Alison Johnson and
Christina Ferrara collectively accounted for four goals and eight assists.
Earning her third consecutive win and keeping the Panthers (5-1, 4-0 NE10) perfect in conference play was
Emma Lemanski between the pipes, as the freshman finished with three saves.
The Penmen (1-5, 0-2 NE10) were led by Kristen Wilder who scored a team-high two goals. In the cage for SNHU, starting goalkeeper Leah Olansky nearly logged a season-high in saves, completing the contest with 12.
Though the Panthers fell behind 1-0 just 49 seconds into the contest on a quick goal from Kristin Wilder, the Brown and Gold scored the next seven in the first half and never trailed again. Pollock went back-to-back at the 26:51 and 23:11 marks to give Adelphi the lead, and the second-ranked team in Division II scored nine of the last 11 goals to lead 9-3 at halftime.
Johnson added a goal and two assists to her stat line, Ferrara recorded a goal and an assist and Scannell scored twice for the starters, while
Beth Ann Pierce tallied a man-up goal and
Allison Schneider passed off two helpers off the bench in the stretch.
Adelphi continued to click offensively in the second half, scoring eight of the nine goals featured over the second 30 minutes. Pierce added two more to account for her hat trick, the third of which also came man-up, while Molly Fetherson helped to finish off Adelphi's scoring with the first goal of her collegiate career.
Overall, the Panthers held a 50-13 edge in total shots, on which Olansky and Alex Comeau combined in the SNHU net for 15 saves. After winning just five of 12 draw controls in the first half, Adelphi flipped the stat in the second and won eight of 10 taken, and caused 15 of SNHU's 26 turnovers in the game.
Adelphi continues NE10 play on Tuesday night, traveling to the University of New Haven for a 7 p.m. contest.
