Women's Hoops Stung by Sharp-Shooting American Int'l, 81-73

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team saw their winning streak come to an end at the hands of the American International College Yellow Jackets inside the Center for Recreation and Sport on Saturday afternoon, as the Panthers fell by an 81-73 final decision.

Despite leading 16-15 after one quarter of play, the Panthers (6-4, 4-2 NE10) were outscored in each of the three ensuing periods to see their four-game winning streak over the past two weeks snapped.

Leonie Edringer was an offensive force for Adelphi despite the setback, as she tallied a career-high 22 points - notching a new personal best in scoring for the third time in the last four games - on 7-for-9 shooting and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.

She was joined in double figures by Niajah Morgan, who tallied 17 of her 19 points in the second half, and scored in double figures for the eighth time in 10 games this season.

Nonetheless, the Yellow Jackets (4-4, 3-2 NE10) saw three of their starting five in double figures and four players in total, as the NE10's leading scorer in Dana Watts tallied a team-best 21 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

The club shot from 50 percent from three-point range, as Rashana Siders added 19 in the effort off the bench, while Dominique Boyd and Alyssa Guyon combined for 25 points in the starting squad.

A back-and-forth affair for the majority of the contest over the first 30 minutes, the second quarter which saw XX ties and XX lead changes as the visitors led by two at the break. AIC took the lead for good with 7:20 left in the third quarter, as Watts put in a two and a three on back-to-back possessions to push the lead to 37-33 at the 7:20 mark.

The margin stayed within two possessions for the rest of the third, but a 12-5 scoring run for the Black and Yellow over the first 4:10 of the fourth helped push the Panthers' deficit to double figures for much of the rest of the way.

Adelphi is back in action next Saturday afternoon for their final game of the 2018 calendar year, as they welcome East Stroudsburg University out of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) to the CRS at 2:00 p.m.
