Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Stymied by the College of Saint Rose, 72-68

Garden City, N.Y. - Jack Laffey's 24-points and fifty percent shooting from three-point range was not enough to hold back the College of Saint Rose, as the visitors took a 72-68 decision Wednesday evening.

Behind Laffey, Ronnie Silva also reached double-figures for the Panthers (5-4, 1-4 NE10) and Conor McGuinness dished out a team-best 10 assists, nearly missing the double-double with nine points. The Golden Knights (4-4, 2-4 NE10) saw three players reach double-digit points, with two scoring 20 or more. Matt Cerutti led the way with 23 points and 11 rebounds, notching his second double-double of the year.

The mid-week matchup was close throughout, as the teams experienced 14 ties and 20 lead changes. Adelphi's largest lead of the game occurred with 2:38 in the opening half, when Laffey drained another three-pointer to take a six-point advantage. Saint Rose tied the game over a minute later with the help of contributions from Adam Anderson to knot the game at 31-all. Chances from both sides didn't fall through in the closing seconds, so the teams broke for the locker room in a stalemate.

Adelphi kept the game tight throughout the second, using a 12-11 run to make the game even once more at 51-51. Dejavaughn Utley and Ronnie Silva combined to once again push away for a four-point lead, The Golden Knights held the home team scoreless for over a minute, but the Panthers managed to keep it close down the stretch.

A made free throw from Cambio gave the hosts' a two-point lead with 37 left on the clock, but Saint Rose was able to drive down the court and Cerutti gave Saint Rose the lead with a swift three-pointer. Another chance for Adelphi was denied by two-time NE10 rookie of the week Sekou Sylla, who blocked an attempt from Cambio that essentially gave the Golden Knights their second league win of the year.

The Panthers have a quick turnaround as they head back to the CRS for a 3:30 p.m. conference contest against American International College on Saturday, Dec. 8. The first 100 fans will receive a free pair of Adelphi-branded sunglasses, in the last game day giveaway of the fall semester.
