Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Starters Shine in Men's Basketball 75-57 Victory Over AIC

Garden City, N.Y. - In a Saturday afternoon, Northeast-10 Conference meeting with the Yellow Jackets of American International College, the Adelphi University men's basketball team saw all five starters reach double-figure scoring en route to a 75-57 decision.

The Panthers (6-4, 2-4 NE10) were led by Jack Laffey who scored a team-high 16 with the help of 4-8 shooting from three-point land. Oswald Parker III had 15 courtesy of a 7-for-10 performance from the field as Ronnie Silva and Conor McGuinness added 11 and 10, respectively, while combining for 13 assists. Nick Cambio pulled down nine defensive boards, alongside 11 points to round out the group.

AIC (3-6, 2-3 NE10) saw three players reach double-digits in the points column, with Logan Santiago atop the group after chipping in 12.

The Brown and Gold wasted no time jumping out to a lead in the early going, however the Yellow Jackets quickly stayed on track to reach an even 15-all, with the help of a three-pointer from Santiago at 10:22. Three of Adelphi's next four baskets were drained from beyond the arc, capped with a tre from Dejavaughn Utley which pushed the host lead to seven. AIC registered two late threes of their own but still trailed by four as the first half came to a close.

Eighteen of the Panthers' 41 second-half points were from downtown, compared to AIC's 2-12 shooting from three-point range in the second frame. Adelphi finally pushed their advantage to double-digits on back-to-back free throws from McGuinness, and posted their largest lead of the game with 5:32 remaining, at 19.

With just under 10 to play, Parker recorded a put-back dunk for the highlight reel and added another slam over a minute later. In a span of two minutes, the home team knocked down three more three-pointers, en route to their largest margin of the game. Several missed shots down the stretch and clean playing kept the game moving as time quickly expired before AIC could pose a comeback.

Adelphi will visit Molloy College on Wednesday, December 19 for their penultimate contest of 2018. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
