New Haven, Conn.- In its final road match of the regular season, the Adelphi University field hockey team ousted the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University, 7-0, in its sixth shutout of the regular season.
The Panthers (9-8, 7-5 NE10) received goals from four different players, Kate Manson (2), Jackie Brown (2), Elissa Frein (2) and Danielle Kempf (1) for their highest-scoring output of the season.
Manson came out of the gate on fire, scoring the first of Adelphi's seven goals just 22 seconds after the starting whistle. Ten minutes later, Frein netted her first goal of the night off a pass from senior Kerrigan Roth. The last goal of the half came from Manson off a cross from the right side from Brown. The senior slammed the ball into the back post to give the Panthers a 3-0 advantage.
The visitors increased their lead by another goal in the 42nd minute, after Brown tipped in a long ball from Frein into the bottom right corner. Less than three minutes later, the duo of Frein and Brown added another, only pushing the Owls to a deeper deficit.
With a 5-0 lead, Brown tallied her second goal of the night taking it herself into the center of the circle for a goal into the right side of the cage. Two minutes later, Kempf ended the Panthers' attack with a back handed shot from the center of the circle.
Holding a 7-0 lead, Adelphi continued to hold off Southern Connecticut (0-18, 0-13 NE10) for the remainder of the contest. Leah Savage posted her sixth shutout of the season, tallying 10 saves at the end of 70 minutes.
Adelphi will play its final match of the regular season at home against Merrimack College. The Brown and Gold will take on the Warriors at 4 p.m. on Nov. 10 in Garden City, N.Y.
