Field Hockey Downed by Merrimack in Season Finale, 2-0

Garden City, N.Y. - In what proved to be its final match of the regular season, the Adelphi University field hockey team fell to the Merrimack Warriors, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Needing a win to ensure its place in the Northeast-10 Conference tournament, the Panthers held the No. 2 team in the standings scoreless for the first 27 minutes of the first half until Colleen Ellis finished a long ball from teammate Juliane Ohmen into the back of the net.

Going into halftime, Merrimack (15-3, 11-2 NE10) edged Adelphi (9-9, 7-6 NE10) in total shots 11-4 and penalty corners, 6-1. One minute into the second half, the Warriors increased their lead to two goals, as Alex Mondini netted her first goal of the season following a penalty corner that the midfielder took herself.

Leah Savage recorded 11 saves, compared to the visiting team's eight.

In the final league standings, there was a three-way tie between Bentley, Assumption and Adelphi – all three schools had a 1-1 record within the mini-conference against each other.

In moving to the second step of the NE10 tiebreaker - comparison of each team's record versus the team occupying the highest position of the standings - Bentley earned the #7 seed based on a win vs. third-place LIU Post, as all teams lost to first-place Pace and Merrimack, and Assumption and Adelphi both lost to LIU.

Assumption earned the #8 seed based on a head-to-head win over Adelphi.
