Syracuse, N.Y. - Unable to overcome an early deficit, the Adelphi University women's basketball team dropped its first Northeast-10 Conference contest of the season at Le Moyne College on Tuesday night, 72-60.
The Panthers (2-3, 2-1 NE10) were out-scored by the Dolphins 22-9 over the first 10 minutes, and never led in the contest overall.
Trailing by a game-high 17 points at halftime,
Niajah Morgan put the Panthers on her back, scoring 18 of her 20 points for the game in the third period.
Behind a 19-5 run in which she scored 15, which later expanded to 22-8, Morgan helped the Panthers whittle the deficit to as few as three, but ultimately, Adelphi never got closer and trailed by seven after three quarters.
The scoring output for the senior guard nonetheless tied a career-best, which she set in a loss at Bentley last January. Overall, Morgan shot 8-for-14 from the floor with five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Julia Strachan once again added bench depth for the Panthers, coming off an 18-point effort in the Panthers' win against New Haven on Saturday to add 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting and four three-pointers.
Le Moyne (2-1, 2-1 NE10) point guard McKayla Roberts tallied 20 points on 7-for-14 shooting, which included five three-pointers in the first half, while graduate student Corrine Poitevien notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Adelphi is back in action on Sunday afternoon, when it travels to Caldwell University for a 1 p.m. non-league tilt.
The team returns home after Thanksgiving, taking on the Chargers of Dominican College in non-league action at the CRS at 5 p.m. on Nov. 28. The first 150 fans in the gymnasium will receive a women's basketball schedule poster.
