Field Hockey Drops 3-2 Decision at Saint Anselm

Manchester, N.H. - A back-and-forth battle between the Adelphi University field hockey team and Saint Anselm College fell in favor of the Hawks on Friday afternoon, 3-2.

The conference contest saw two lead changes and a tied score twice during its 70 minutes. Goals from Jackie Brown and Kate Manson gained Adelphi (8-8, 6-5 NE10) the lead twice, at 1-0 and 2-1, but the Panthers eventually fell to the home team (11-5, 8-3 NE10) as Abby Walker scored the eventual game-winner with 2:51 remaining.

Brown gave the Panthers an early advantage, scoring Adelphi's first goal of the game halfway through the sixth minute. Adelphi went into the locker room after the first 35 minutes with the lead, as well as outshooting the hosts 7-3.

However, Saint Anselm found an answer in the second, netting the tying goal seven minutes after the second whistle. Eight minutes later, the Panthers responded with a goal from senior forward, Kate Manson following a penalty corner before the Hawks evened the score once again just four minutes later. 

Hannah Friend scored that equalizer for the Hawks, and finished with a game-best three points, as she also assisted on Maddie Bresslers initial tally. 

After a 30-minute delay due to lightning with just over six minutes in regulation left on the clock, Saint Anselm clinched its third goal of the game upon resumption. Walker broke the tie following a penalty corner, the home team's seventh of the game.

The Brown and Gold continues its road stint at Southern Connecticut on Nov. 6. The Northeast-10 matchup is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in New Haven, Conn.
