Men's Hoops Drops First Game of 2018 at New Haven

West Haven, Conn. - Despite a team-high 15 points from Nick Cambio, the Adelphi University men's basketball team dropped their first contest this season to the University of New Haven on Saturday afternoon, 87-67.

Adelphi (3-1, 1-1 NE10) saw four players in double-figures, as New Haven (2-0, 1-0 NE10) posted five different players with the same feat. Cambio led the way with 15 as Ronnie Silva and Austin Beech registered 13 and 12, respectively with Oswald Parker III rounding out the group with 10.

Overall as a team, New Haven finished the night shooting 61.4 percent from the field, the highest team shooting percentage since February 18, 2017 when they shot 71.1 percent against Pace. Included in the 35-of-57 field goals that were made were 10 buckets from beyond the three point arc, led by Kian Dalyrimple's three. The Blue and Gold also finished 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

The Panthers fell just below 40 percent from the field and shot a dismal 28.9 percent (11-38) from three-point range in the loss.

New Haven added ten to their side of the scoreboard over mid way through the opening half, leading the Panthers 28-18. The Chargers rattled off 12 unanswered before any offense from their opponents chipped in, but even then the Brown and Gold still trailed by 22 heading into their locker room.

Cambio and Silva each chipped in 10 in the second frame, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. The hosts' largest lead came on two separate occasions, each time extending to a 26 point advantage over the Panthers. Down the stretch, Parker III and Dejavaughn Utely both made extensive efforts, but time expired before either of their contributions made an impact.

Adelphi returns to action on the road when they take on Le Moyne College on Tuesday, November 20. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
