Garden City, N.Y. - A furious fourth quarter comeback spurred the Adelphi University women's basketball team to a win in its Northeast-10 Conference opener on Wednesday night inside the Center for Recreation and Sport over the Pace University Setters, 57-52.
Junior guard
Fallyn Stephens knocked down the go-ahead triple for the Panthers (1-2, 1-0 NE10) with 3:18 left in the final stanza, as a part of a team-best 14 points, to give Adelphi a 53-50 lead which it held on to to win its league opener against a divisional foe in Pace (0-3, 0-1 NE10).
After leading 11-9 at the close of the first quarter, the Panthers were outscored 19-11 in the second stanza, and fell behind by a game-high 10 with 4:37 left in the second half. Jackie DelliSanti net two of her 12 points for the game on a fast break layup, putting the Brown and Gold down 25-15.Â
The Panthers' second-half comeback was also anchored by
Leonie Edringer and
Niajah Morgan, with the two combining for 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks over the second 20 minutes.
Edringer scored all 12 of her points in the second half, while Morgan finished the night with nine points and seven boards.Â
Adelphi held a 42-35 edge on the glass, as well as at the free throw line, shooting 12-for-13 to Pace's 4-for-9. Lauren Schetter scored a game-high 15 points off the bench for the Blue and Gold, going 7-for-16 from the floor with eight rebounds and two blocks.Â
The Panthers are back in action on Saturday for their first road contest of 2018, as they travel to the University of New Haven for a 1:30 p.m. NE10Â contest.
