Volleyball Tops Reigning NE10 Champions New Haven, 3-0

Garden City, N.Y. - Sara Bisbe placed 19 kills in a three-set win for Adelphi volleyball on Tuesday evening over defending Northeast-10 Conference champions New Haven.

While Bisbe accounted for 19 through three, McKenna Clawson also reached double-figures with 15 as the two combined for 26 digs and three service aces. Pacing the Panthers (16-4, 5-1 NE10) was Grace Wegmann, who tacked on 40 assists coupled with 12 digs.

The Chargers (17-4, 7-1 NE10), who dropped their first conference contest of the season, was led by Kali Greathead who collected 15 kills.

In a tight race for the opener, a service error allowed Sara Mandreja to notch an ace to put Adelphi ahead, 12-10. New Haven put up a fight down the stretch coming as close as two, but Bisbe and Clawson recorded the final two points to take the set.

The Chargers battled from an early deficit, tallying four unanswered points to post their first lead of the second set. An attack error from the visitors swung momentum in favor of the home team, allowing them to score four straight to force a New Haven timeout.

Trailing by as many as six, the Blue and White put up a 7-2 run which brought them within one at 22-21. Kills from Greathead and Mallory Nowicki gave the Chargers their first lead since early on in the contest, but the hosts kept the pressure on.
Bisbe h
ad a hand in all four of Adelphi's final four points, including three kills and a huge solo block to end the set at 29-27.

Using the energy in the gym, the Brown and Gold took an early 5-2 lead, however, that was quickly squandered as the defending NE10 champions scored five straight to take a two-point lead.

The teams went back-and-forth but the home team was responsible for four of the last five points in what was eventually the match. Sophia Powless found the floor to earn set (match) point and an awkward dribbler over the net from Bisbe hit a Charger and fell, earning the win for Adelphi.

The team returns to action for a two-game road swing over the weekend as they trip to Franklin Pierce and Southern New Hampshire.
