Rindge, N.H. - In a match which came down to the wire, the Adelphi University men's tennis team was ultimately upended in its Northeast-10 Conference opener at Franklin Pierce University on Saturday afternoon, 4-3.
Adelphi (0-1, 0-1 NE10) swept doubles play to claim the opening point of the match, but a pair of contrasting victories at No.1 and No.6 singles helped the Ravens (2-0, 1-0 NE10) seal their first victory in the head-to-head since Adelphi joined the Northeast-10 Conference in the 2009-10 season.
With his team trailing 3-2 in the overall match score, senior James Bisazza leveled proceedings and claimed victory over Adelphi's
Pietro Sole in a final-set tiebreak at the top spot, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(5). Franklin Pierce finished off the win as senior Andrew Schadt upended rookie
Finn Krause in the sixth singles spot, 6-1, 6-2.
Adelphi also saw singles victories fromÂ
Ilya Kalabukhau andÂ
Luke Attride-Stirling in the defeat, as the junior and sophomore each scored straight-set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
