Garden City, N.Y. - Two first-half goals led the Adelphi University men's soccer team to its fourth shutout of a Northeast-10 Conference opponent on Saturday, as the Panthers defeated the Assumption College Greyhounds, 2-0 on Motamed Field.
Rookie
Paolo Marciano scored for the third straight game for Adelphi (8-2-1, 6-1 NE10) tallying the opening goal just 8:10 into the game, which also proved to be the game-winner for the third consecutive contest.
Senior
James Thristino added insurance in the 31st minute, and the Panther defense did the rest against the Greyhounds (6-3-1, 4-2-1 NE10).
Taylor Kaczynski found Marciano from the far post in the ninth minute of action to record his first assist of two on the afternoon, while he and Mads Michelsen chipped into to find Thristino who finished past a diving Sebastian Jimenez for Adelphi's second goal.
Jimenez turned aside seven of Adelphi's shots in 90 minutes, as the Panthers saw several chances to increase their lead turned aside in the game overall.
Nonetheless,
Matt Apicella made three of his five saves in the second half, as Adelphi was stymied somewhat after taking 12 of its 16 shots for the game over the first 45 minutes.
The Brown and Gold are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 10 when it welcomes Southern Connecticut State University to Motamed Field for a 7 p.m. NE10 tilt.
