Garden City, N.Y. - In a hard fought battle on Motamed Field, the Adelphi University field hockey team fell to league-leading Northeast-10 conference opponent Pace University, 3-1 on Wednesday evening.
The Setters (15-1, 11-0 NE10) quickly got on the board in the first half, scoring the first of three goals two minutes after the first whistle. Haley Rose of Pace dribbled her way past the Adelphi defense to slam a ball into an open net.
Adelphi (8-7, 6-4 NE10) responded in the 26th minutes after Jackie Brown netted the tying goal for the Panthers following a scrum in front of the cage with the assist credited to Emily Power.
The Setters later took the lead in the second half, scoring their second goal of the contest again in quick fashion after just over two minutes. The goal marked Jenna Sanossian's first goal of the contest, with the assist credited to Rose.
The Panthers battled for the next 30 minutes before Sanossian increased the Setter's lead once again with her second goal of the night. A cross from the right side gave the forward enough room to put it behind Adelphi keeper Leah Savage.
She recorded three saves in the cage for the hosts, facing 12 shots from the visitors.
The Brown and Gold will travel to Saint Anselm College on Nov. 2 for a conference contest. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Friday.Â
