Field Hockey Dominates Against AIC 6-2 On Senior Day

Garden City, N.Y.- A career day for Jackie Brown paced the Adelphi University field hockey team to a 6-2 victory over Northeast-10 competitor, American International College Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the first half, the department acknowledged the accomplishments of six members leaving the program next spring, in fifth years Kerrigan Roth and Jessica Lodato, and seniors Charlotte Smith, Kate Manson, Madison Skelton, Emily Power.

Brown was credited to half of the team's final goal count in the final decision, scoring three of the Panthers six goals. The sophomore also tallied one assist at the end of 70 minutes.

Adelphi (8-6, 6-3 NE10) also received goals from three additional players in Elissa Frein, Danielle Kempf and Power.

Although the Panthers outscored American Int'l (1-13, 1-8 NE10) by four goals, the Yellow Jackets quickly earned the first tally of the contest two minutes after the clock started. Ten minutes later, the hosts tied the score 1-1, marking Brown's first goal of the night.

Kempf and Power cushioned the Panthers lead with another strike in the 20th minute, making the score 2-1. With six minutes left in the half, a penalty stroke from Brown gave the home team a two-goal lead, however the Yellow Jackets responded with its second, and final goal of the evening, one minute later.

With Adelphi up by one going into the second half, Brown netted her third of the contest two minutes in, increasing the lead to two goals for the second time. Just seven minutes later, a combination from Frein to Power put another one on the board for the hosts, making the game 5-3 with 26 minutes left to play.

The Panthers final goal of the evening came from the stick of Frein following a pass from the top of the circle courtesy of Brown.

The Brown and Gold outshot the Yellow Jackets, 28-10, as well as led in penalty corners, 11-4.

Adelphi will return to Motamed Field for a Northeast-10 conference matchup with Pace on Wednesday evening. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
