Two Goals From Frein Propel Field Hockey To 3-2 Defeat of STAC

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University field hockey team hosted non-conference competitor Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Tuesday evening and earned a 3-2 victory over the Spartans.

The Panthers (7-5, 5-2 NE10) received goals from Elissa Frein and Emily Power in the home contest, while the visiting team recorded two different scorers.

Saint Thomas Aquinas (4-13, 0-0 ECC) appeared on the board first in the 20th minute, credited to Taylor Hickey following a penalty corner. Seven minutes later, Frein scored her first goal of the evening after volleying a high cross from Jackie Brown into the open net.

With the score tied going into the second half, Frein netted her second goal of the match just three minutes in, after taking a defender one-on-one to the right side of the circle.

Power later contributed to the attack for the Panthers, increasing Adelphi's lead by two with eight minutes left in regulation after a scrum in front of the net allowed the senior to score her first of the game.

The Spartans fought back to decrease the deficit to one goal with just under four minutes left to play, but the Brown and Gold were able to hold off STAC for the remainder of the match.

A quick turnaround for the Brown and Gold brings the LIU Post Pioneers back to Motamed Field for a rescheduled contest on Thursday evening. The Northeast-10 matchup is set to begin at 6 p.m.
