Garden City, N.Y. - Fresh off a return to the Division II Top 10, the Adelphi University men's soccer team was handed its first defeat in over a month against the Le Moyne College Dolphins on Tuesday night, 4-3.
Adelphi (12-3-1, 10-2 NE10), unbeaten in its last nine matches, surrendered its most goals in the defeat since its last loss: a 6-3 setback at the University of New Haven on Sept. 19. The Dolphins entered the night in second place behind the Panthers in the Northeast-10 Conference standings, with a victory giving them three points and slimming the Panthers' lead to just 30 to 28 overall.
Taylor Kaczynski scored twice for the Brown and Gold in the setback, with the first and last goals of the contest in the 24th and 86th minutes, respectively.
After his opening strike, Le Moyne's Salar Faryar scored his first of two - spanned 20 minutes apart - nearly three minutes late for the equalizer and the go-ahead strike.
Robert Rohrhirsch added a pair of second-half goals for the visitors as well, giving them a three-goal lead with scores in the 66th and 73rd minutes. Adelphi's last gasp to tie the game fell short, as the Panthers were unable to get a shot off in the final five minutes.
The Dolphins' Josh Mahr made seven saves in the contest, as
Matt Apicella made nine in the loss.
Paolo Marciano was responsible for Adelphi's other tally, scoring off a free kick in the 68th minute.
The Panthers close out the regular season on Friday night, as they travel to American Int'l College for a 7 p.m. league tilt.
