Rindge, N.H. - The Adelphi University women's soccer team dropped its third straight Northeast-10 Conference contest on Saturday evening, falling 2-0 in the road to the No.13 nationally-ranked and league-leading Franklin Pierce University Ravens.
A pair of seniors did the work for the Ravens (11-1-1, 10-1-1 NE10) in the match, as senior forward Bruna Tavares scored as time was nearly expired in the first half just 76 seconds before the first whistle, before senior back Marta Turmo tacked on the insurance goal in the 80th minute.
Adelphi (8-5-1, 7-5-0 NE10) had some of its best opportunities early, beginning in the seventh minute as
Taylor Sipos took a free kick from the top of the penalty area but missed just wide. Later, in the 23rd minute, in the 23rd minute, a scrum for the ball left
Julianna Klaum nearly one-on-one with freshman goalkeeper Casey Kane, but she won the battle for the ball and cleared out the danger for the home team.
The Panthers' best chance to equal in the second half with the score at 1-0 came off of another corner in the 68th minute. Sipos' kick managed to clear over Kane, but the Raves' defense stood tall in the back of their keeper and cleared the ball out, again keeping the Brown and Gold off the board.
Both clubs were fairly even on the stat sheet after 90 minutes, but Franklin Pierce posted advantages of 11-9 in shot attempts and 5-4 in shots on goal.
The Panthers have capped off their road swing in the regular season, and will close out with a pair of home matches prior to the start of the league playoffs. The Panthers currently sit in a tie for seventh in the league standings with Southern Conn. State, and will welcome American Int'l to Garden City for a 5 p.m. contest on Wednesday.
