Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Marciano, Thristino Lead #13 Men's Soccer to 2-0 Triumph at Saint Rose for Eighth Straight Win

Albany, N.Y. - A pair of goals by Paolo Marciano assisted by James Thrstino led the 13th-ranked Adelphi University men's soccer team to its eighth straight win on Wednesday night, a 2-0 decision at the College of Saint Rose.

Marciano was responsible for both of Adelphi's goals for the second time this season, as the rookie also scored both in a 2-1 win at Molloy on Oct. 3.

He was assisted by Thristino on both tallies in the second half in the 78th and 84th minute, with the first goal of the game coming with the Brown and Gold playing with 10 men following a red card to Stephen Megaloudis at the 72:45 mark.

A scoreless first half saw just eight combined shots, with Golden Knights' starting goalkeeper Gianni Carillo making two saves on Adelphi efforts in just 5:34 before exiting the game with injury.

Backup keeper Ryan Henning made three saves in his effort from there, including a diving stop on Thristino's penalty kick in the 53rd minute which helped keep the game scoreless to that point. Matt Apicella also made two stops prior to the first goal of the game in the second half, after not needing to make a save in the opening 45 minutes.

Marciano finally broke the ice on a quick feed from Thristino through traffic with 77:26 gone by, and later doubled the lead on one touch from the left-side flank nearly six minutes later.

Despite just 17 combined team fouls in a physical contest, the game saw seven yellow cards and three reds, as Adelphi's Patrick Guier and Saint Rose's Orel Taib were simultaneously sent off at the 85:20 mark.

The Panthers are back in action at home on Saturday afternoon, as they welcome Franklin Pierce University to Motamed Field in a 4 p.m. contest.
