Waltham, Mass. - With no time left on the clock, a big save from Leah Savage turned aside Bentley University's final attempt to extend to overtime, handing the Adelphi field hockey team a 2-1 Northeast-10 Conference victory on Wednesday afternoon.
The rookie goalkeeper tallied seven saves in the NE10 contest, holding Bentley (8-5, 4-5 NE10) from advancing the game to overtime on its final penalty corner.
Jackie Brown netted both goals for Adelphi (6-4, 5-1 NE10), scoring the game-winner with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Brown also lead the team in shots, swinging six of the Panthers' nine.
Both teams were silent for majority of the first half, until the home team got on the board at the 34-minute mark, giving Bentley the edge going into halftime.
Ten minutes into the second half, Brown scored her first of two goals off a penalty corner to tie the game at 1-1.
The sophomore broke the tie in the 59th minute of the contest off a pass from the right side of the circle from Danielle Kempf. The Panthers held off the hosts for the duration of the half, ending with a game-winning save from Savage.
The Brown and Gold will return to action on Saturday for a conference contest with Assumption College. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. in Worcester, Mass.
