Worcester, Mass. - The Adelphi University field hockey team dropped a heartbreaker against Assumption College in a 1-0 victory for the Greyhounds on Saturday afternoon.

Assumption (7-5, 3-4 NE10) broke a scoreless tie off a tip-in goal from Isabel Primack in the 41st minute, which gave the home team a lead it never relinquished in the Northeast-10 Conference contest.

The Panthers (6-5, 5-2 NE10) were on the attack early on the offensive end in the first five minutes of the contest, and forced Greyhounds keeper Sarah Bodzinski to make two of her 10 saves in the early going.

Both teams were silent in the first half, as the score remained 0-0 after the first 35 minutes of play with Leah Savage and Bodzinski making a combined nine stops.

Despite ramping up its offensive efforts in the second half - outshooting Assumption by a margin of 17-13, the Brown and Gold were unable to first take the lead or find an equalizer. The Brown and Gold ripped off five shots on goal, and nine in total, in the final five-plus minutes, but could not break through before the final horn.

Savage tallied nine saves in the cage for Adelphi after 70 minutes of play. Jackie Brown led the team for the second game in a row with six shots.

The Brown and Gold will return to Motamed Field on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference contest with St. Thomas Aquinas. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Garden City, N.Y.
