Garden City, N.Y. - A game-winning overtime header by Stonehill College's Camryn Thompson in the 95th minute handed the Adelphi University women's soccer team a 1-0 defeat on Motamed Field on Saturday.
Adelphi (8-3-1, 7-3 NE10) was handed its second overtime defeat in its past three games, as the Panthers slipped to 2-2 in games over 90 minutes this season.
The Brown and Gold held a 9-4 advantage in shots in the first half, but proved unable to break through against both the Skyhawk defenses and keeper Kaitlin Brown.
Five of Brown's saves came in the first half, but none proved bigger than the diving stop she made on
Kerianne Scorce in the 66th minute, turning aside the junior's effort one-on-one on the near side.
Overall, the Panthers held a slim edge in shots, 17-15, but the two clubs both took seven shots on goal.
Krista Aliscio proved even with Brown for much of the game, as she turned aside six shots - including one just 27 seconds before the eventual game-winner.
Adelphi hits the road for a pair of games next week, beginning with a 6 p.m. tilt at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y. on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
