Garden City, N.Y. - After 78 minutes of scoreless field hockey, Emily Power sent the Adelphi University Panthers home happy with a 1-0 overtime victory against Saint Michael's College on Motamed Field.
The game-winner gave the Panthers (5-4, 4-1 NE10) their second straight win on home turf, and fourth in five league games so far this season.
It capped off a contest that Adelphi dominated offensively, as the Brown and Gold held a 19-4 edge in total shots, but one which saw them stymied in regulation by a brilliant performance from Purple Knight keeper Hannah Wilmont, who made 12 saves.
The first 35 minutes read almost even for both teams with the Purple Knights (1-8, 1-4 NE10) tallying three shots while Adelphi (5-4, 4-1 NE10) posted four.
Although remaining scoreless for the second half, the Panthers out-shot the visitors 13-1 with a 7-0 margin in penalty corners.
Almost four minutes into the extra period, Power netted Adelphi's winning goal - her fifth of the season - off a pass from Jackie Brown on the right side of the circle.
Leah Savage posted her fifth shutout of the season with a pair of saves in the opening half.
The Brown and Gold will return to action on the road against Bentley University on Wednesday afternoon. The Northeast-10 matchup is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
