West Haven, Conn. - Goals from
Taylor Sipos and
Kerianne Scorce got the Adelphi University women's soccer team back in the win column on Wednesday night as the Panthers shut out the University of New Haven on the road, 2-0.
In search of its first win in the month of October, the Brown and Gold (8-2-1, 7-2 NE10) got all the offense it needed from two of its leaders in the second half, as 2017 All-Region honoree Sipos broke a scoreless tie in the 51st minute with her first goal of the season, while Scorce tacked on her team-leading ninth in the 71st.
The Panthers took seven shots before New Haven even recorded one in the game, with New Haven's lone effort over the first 45 minutes being turned aside by
Krista Aliscio in the 29th minute.
That set the tone offensively for the contest, as Adelphi dominated time of possession against the Chargers (2-9-1, 0-9-1 NE10) and took 20 shots - 10 in each half - to New Haven's seven.
Ultimately, Adelphi broke through early in the second half after spending much of its time down New Haven's end of the field, with the third corner kick of the half's first five minutes leading to Sipos' goal.
Six of the shots for the home team came in the second half, while Paige Davis made six stops for the Chargers down the other end. The Adelphi defense nonetheless helped rookie goalkeeper Aliscio picked up her first win in her second career start, as she played all 90 minutes and made three saves.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday at Motamed Field, hosting the Skyhawks of Stonehill College in a 3 p.m. NE10 contest.
