Garden City, N.Y. - On the first day of the spring 2018 semester, the 2017 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team was honored with commemorative National Champion rings at halftime of the men's basketball contest in recognition of the program's eighth championship.
A brief gathering in the Campbell Lounge preceded the on-court ceremony, where remarks were given by Director of Athletics
Danny McCabe, Head Coach
Pat McCabe and former captain
Jacqueline Jahelka, '17. Jahelka, along with additional captains
Kate Beier,
Ryley Weber and
Kaitlyn Stackpole, presented Adelphi President Dr. Christine Riordan with a pendant honoring the accomplishment.
"Our coaches set the bar high throughout the season and challenged us to rise to it," reminisced Jahelka. "We were held at a higher standard than any of us thought we could reach - and it was because of the hard work, the dedication and the teamwork that we put in, day in and day out (after being told to grow up a few times) that we were able to rewrite the story this past season and this time, end it our way".
The 2018 team sets their sights on a ninth National Championship as they begin the season in a rematch of the 2017 title game at Florida Southern on Saturday, February 17.
