Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Late Push Falls Short as Women's Hoops Edged at Le Moyne, 68-60

Syracuse, N.Y. - Trailing by as much as 10 in the fourth quarter, the Adelphi University women's basketball team made it a one-point game late, but ultimately could not knock off the Le Moyne College Dolphins on the road on Tuesday night, falling 68-60 in the first game of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader selected as part of the Division II National Showcase on WatchESPN and the ESPN app.

Trailing for the entire game, the Panthers (11-12, 7-8 NE10), who faced a 60-50 deficit with 4:01 on the clock, scored 10 of the next 11 points to pull within one with 1:15 remaining - the closest they had been until that point.

In that span, Fallyn Stephens - who exploded for 21 points in the first meeting between the two teams in November and had largely been held in check in Tuesday's contest - but sank a pair of three-pointers down the stretch to help Adelphi get back in it.

However, a second-chance basket for Joanna Dobrovosky - the last of 17 points that the Dolphins accrued on the offensive glass in the game - kicked off a 7-0 run for the home team to end the game which kept the Brown and Gold at arms length and denied the comeback.

Forced to battle for the entire game after a 22-14 first quarter which saw the Dolphins (14-7, 10-5 NE10) stamp early authority, the Panthers got a shot in the arm off the bench in the first half from Jess Camarda, who scored 10 of her 13 points for the game over the first 20 minutes. She was joined in double figures in the contest by Niajah Morgan, who scored 13 of her game-high 19 points in the second half.

Looking to make a second quarter push, Adelphi whittled the deficit to as few as two after scoring nine of the first 12 points of the second period, and forced Le Moyne to take a timeout as Camarda sank a jumper to bring the score to 25-23 in favor of Le Moyne with 6:43 until halftime. However, Adelphi went cold from the floor for nearly six minutes from there, as the Dolphins restored a nine-point lead with seven straight and led by seven at the break.

A size advantage for the Dolphins proved crucial over the course of the contest, as Le Moyne's two six-foot plus forwards, Dobrovosky and Courtney Webster combined for 28 points, 20 rebounds and five blocks.

The 6-foot-3 Dobrovosky scored a team-best 16 points with 11 rebounds and four blocks, and crucially for the home team, only picked up one foul in 37 minutes - as she fouled out in Adelphi's 60-52 win over the Dolphins in Garden City back on Nov. 21.

Also in double figures for the Dolphins were point guard McKayla Roberts, who got hot late and scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half, while Nicole Riddick added 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Panthers remain on the road for their next NE10 contest, as they travel to the University of New Haven for a 1:30 p.m. tipoff on Feb. 3.
