Rindge, N.H. - A balanced offensive output for 40 minutes powered the Adelphi University women's basketball team to a 93-51 Northeast-10 Conference victory at Franklin Pierce University on Saturday afternoon in the Panthers' largest scoring output of the season.
The Brown and Gold (10-10, 6-6 NE10) snapped a two-game slide in style, out-performing a 90-61 victory over the University of the District of Columbia from Nov. 26 by virtue of five players in double figures and over 50 percent shooting from the floor (34-for-66).
Defensively, Adelphi held the Ravens (4-13, 1-11 NE10) to under 35 percent shooting from the field, 2-for-18 from three-point range, and single-digit scoring in the first and fourth quarters. The Panthers also forced 24 turnovers which led to a whopping 30 points down the other end.Â
Fallyn Stephens sank six of Adelphi's 16 triples in the game for a contest-high 18 points for the fifth game this season in which she's sunk five or more shots from deep.
Niajah Morgan, who scored a career-best 20 point against Bentley on Wednesday, continued her recent roll with 16 points, six rebounds and six assists - her sixth straight game in double figures. Senior forward
Natalie Fekula tied a season and career-best with 15 points on nearly-perfect 6-for-7 from the floor, despite only playing 25 minutes in the start with foul trouble, while NE10 Co-Rookie of the Week
Emily Miccile did a little bit of everything to the tune of 13 points, four assists, three rebounds and a block.
Off the bench, freshman point guard
Katie Murphy sank a trio of shots from three-point range to end the game with a season-best 13 points, rounding out Adelphi's offensive leaders in just 22 minutes of action.
Adelphi led the game for a total of 38:58, never allowing the Ravens to take the lead in the game which was only tied at 0-0. Stephens' first three just 34 seconds into the game gave Adelphi a lead it never relinquished, as the Panthers scored eight of the first 10 points en route to an 18-9 lead at the close of the first 10 minutes. Ten of the first 12 points in the second quarter quickly ballooned the visitors' lead to double figures, where it remained for the rest of the game. A 10-0 run at the midway point of the period doubled up Adelphi's lead on the Ravens, which stood at a half-high 20 (40-20) as Murphy sank a triple with 1:48 until halftime.
The second half proved similar for the Panthers, who scored over 20 points in the third and fourth quarters en route to snapping its two-game skid. Fekula scored 12 of her 15 points in the second half, while
Julia Strachan came off the bench and added six points on a pair of threes and a rebound in five minutes in the fourth.
Adelphi returns home to kick off the spring semester on Tuesday, Jan. 23, when it hosts Southern New Hampshire in a 5:30 p.m. NE10 contest. The first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free t-shirt.Â
