Three Score as #6 Women's Soccer Downs Le Moyne to Remain Perfect

Syracuse, N.Y. - Two first-half goals helped the Adelphi University women's soccer team remain perfect in 2017, as the sixth-ranked Panthers defeated Le Moyne College 3-0, on the road on Saturday afternoon.

The Brown and Gold (8-0, 6-0 NE10) came out firing in the opening half of play in the Northeast-10 matchup as the team landed four shots on goal in the first 20 minutes. Finally, the fifth got them on the board when Kerianne Scorce put up a header at the top of goal box off a cross from right end line courtesy of Jeanine Nunez.

The Dolphins (3-6, 2-4 NE10) only managed two shots in the first compared to the Panthers nine, and trailed by two at the half.

The second tally for Adelphi came from Jessica Petry, her second of the season and second in the last two games. Alexsis Weiser and Savannah Taylor both managed a touch before it got to Petry, who headed it in to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage.

Le Moyne held a disadvantage in nearly every category through both halves, including an 0-5 mark in corner kicks. The Panthers managed to add one more goal in the second en route to their eighth straight victory when Nunez took a shot from the top of goal box off a failed catch of a cross.

Isabel Sandstrom and the Adelphi defense kept the Dolphins at bay, even when two late shots came in the second half. Sandstrom finished the NE10 contest with three saves and her seventh win in league play.

The team returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 7, when they host Southern New Hampshire University for a 4:00 p.m. meeting on Motamed Field.
