#6 Women's Soccer Shuts Out SCSU, 3-0

New Haven, Conn. - The sixth-ranked Adelphi University women's soccer team scored its third shutout of the season, and first on the road, on Wednesday night, taking down the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University, 3-0.

Kerianne Scorce tallied her third goal of the season for Adelphi (8-0, 6-0 NE10) in the 20th minute for the lone tally of the first half, before Jeanine Nunez and Jessic Petry added on in the second half to help to Panthers to another Notheast-10 Conference victory. The Panthers out-shot the Owls, 18-3, with the defense leaving SCSU shotless over the first 45 minutes, as Isabel Sandtrom turned aside two of the home team's shots in the second half.

SCSU's Gabrielle Arruda made four saves in the first 19 minutes for the Owls (1-7-1,1-3-1 NE10) before Scorce finally broke the scoreless tie, taking a pass from Sage Dieterle into the back of the net from the right side for the first goal of the game. Adelphi's attack was stymied somewhat from there, as the Brown and Gold took just two more shots over the next 25 minutes, as SCSU kept the Top 10 team off the board even further.

The second half saw no such scoring drought, as Nunez tallied her eighth of the season in the 47th minute, after having seen her season-opening scoring streak come to an end in Saturday's 1-0 victory against Saint Michael's. Freshman Madison Raposo crossed the ball towards the senior's direction, and the latter made no mistake in finishing past Arruda to double the Adelphi lead.

In the 58th minute, Petry added some insurance with her first goal of the season, as she took a shot from the right side into the top left corner of the goal to round out the Brown and Gold's offensive effort on the night. Adelphi's previous two shutouts of the season came at home, in a season-opening 2-0 win against Mercy (Sept. 7) and the aforementioned 1-0 win against the Purple Knights on Sept. 23.

The Panthers are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 30, when they travel to Le Moyne for an 11 AM NE10 contest in Syracuse.
