Thristino Tallies Two to Lead #3 Men's Soccer to NE10 Win at Bentley, 4-1

Waltham, Mass. -- Junior James Thristino scored a pair of second-half goals as the third-ranked Adelphi University men's soccer team ran its winning streak to seven straight with a 4-1 win at Bentley University on Tuesday afternoon.

Ranked #3 in the nation for the third week in a row on Monday, Adelphi played nearly one half of scoreless soccer against the Falcons, who came into the contest looking for their first win of the season.

However, after a late foul in the 44th minute, senior Toni Soler converted on the penalty kick opportunity for the lone goal of the first half, which saw Adelphi lead 1-0.

Adelphi (7-0-1, 5-0 NE10) saw its shutout streak, which lasted 315:16 over the course of three-and-a-half games, come to an end in the second half as Bentley's Julian Stewart took a feed from Chris Caso around the defend and through from the 15-yard box past Raymond Leto to tie the game at 1-1 just 16 seconds into the frame.

Two shots in short order in the 56th and 68th minutes by Federico De Oliveira and Florent Girardin were turned aside by Falcons (0-7-1, 0-4-1 NE10) keeper Harrison Rapant, but Thristino broke the tie off a cross from Nickolas Buric to the far post at the 60:48 mark to give Adelphi a lead it would never relinquish.

Thristino and Alex Varkatzas went back-to-back in the span of just 40 seconds to put the game on ice later in the half, as Varkatzas took a through ball from Andre De Giorgi over the defense and finished all alone at the goal line, before Thristino scored his second of the game from 25 yards out off the assist from de Oliveira.

A physical game for 90 minutes, the contest saw 25 fouls and four yellow cards total, two for each team. Leto made a total of five saves on eight shots faced, as Adelphi barraged Rapant with 18 total shots, 10 of which came on goal.

The Panthers return home on Saturday, Sept. 30 for a 3 p.m. NE10 tilt against SNHU.
