Field Hockey Falls to #7 Pace, 2-0

Pleasantville, N.Y.- The Adelphi University field hockey team competed against the Setters of Pace University Tuesday afternoon for a victory in Pleasantville, NY. The Northeast-10 matchup ended in favor of Pace, 2-0.

The Panthers (2-6, 1-3 NE10) held Pace, the seventh-ranked team in the latest NFHCA Division II national poll, scoreless in the first half as both teams held even with six shots on goal each.

The Setters (7-1, 3-1 NE10), undefeated at home, were unable to crack the Adelphi defense for the first half of regulation as Amanda Gargiulo and Pace's Lesly Sanchez equally had six saves after 35 minutes of play.

With the second half underway, both teams remained unable to find the cage for another 22 minutes until Lisette de Bruin netted the first goal of the game for Pace in the 57th minute. The freshman midfielder was assisted by Jane Kasparian to claim her second goal of the season.

Five minutes later, Rachel Beam increase the hosts' lead 2-0, scoring in the 62nd minute of the second half with de Bruin adding an assist to her stat line.

Gargiulo finished the day with eight saves on 13 shots faced as Pace out-shot the Panthers, 13-11, also holding the advantage in corners, 12-9.

The Brown and Gold will continue their cluster of road games on Sept. 30 in North Easton, Mass. for a contest with Stonehill College. The Panthers are set to face-off with the Skyhawks at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
