Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Crook Paces Offense to 3-0 Sweep of Dominican College

Garden City, N.Y. - With a career-high 17 assists from rookie Courtney Crook, the Adelphi University volleyball team swept the Chargers of Dominican College in straight sets Monday evening.

Victoria Cast led the offense for the second consecutive game, with 10 kills behind a .600 hitting percentage. Just missing the double-digit kill mark were McKenna Clawson and Karly Bihner, who both registered seven kills, the latter posting a career-high. The team limited their errors to just two in the final set, helping them post a .435 team hitting percentage in the finale.

Adelphi wasted no time in the opening set, as they jumped out to an 11-3 lead, bookmarked with kills from Cast and Cara McKenzie. Eight of the final ten points were awarded to the hosts as well, as they closed out the first set with a 25-12 victory. Rebecca Seeba recorded a service ace, one of the Panthers 12 in the match at set point to set up a block opportunity from Cast and Madison Canestrari for the win.

Tables quickly turned in the second as the Chargers took advantage of early miscues from the Brown and Gold to command a 6-1 lead. Adelphi remained poised and chipped away at their deficit, and regained the lead with the help of Clawson's seven-point run at the service line. Back-to-back kills from Bihner and aces from Clawson helped the trailing Panthers push ahead to a 15-11 advantage. Two blocks down the stretch from the duo of Canestrari and Cast allowed the home team to move to a 2-0 advantage in the match.

The hosts opened the third and final set with a 12-0 run, courtesy of three service aces from Crook and several errors from the Charger offense. Dominican rattled off their longest run of the contest with three straight points, but the deficit was too large to overcome as Adelphi took the last four points and the match.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, September 30 when they host Assumption College at 1:00 p.m. in Northeast-10 Conference action.
