Garden City, N.Y. -- Senior
Taylor Sipos broke a scoreless tie in the 57th minute to lead the eighth-ranked Adelphi University women's soccer team past the Saint Michael's College Purple Knights in Northeast-10 Conference action, 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
An offensive-minded Adelphi (7-0, 5-0 NE10) attack saw the home squad take 28 shots to Saint Michael's two, but it was not until the midway point of the second half that the scoreless tie was broken.
Sipos' fourth tally of the season came as she cleaned up a hard cross from
Kerianne Scorce at the top of the box, past Purple Knights (2-3-1, 1-3 NE10) keeper Megan LeCours for the lone goal of the day.
LeCours did her part to keep Adelphi at bay for much of the contest otherwise, making 10 saves overall, with Adelphi also holding a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.
Rookie
Isabel Sandstrom recorded her second shutout of the season, and first since a season-opening 2-0 win against Mercy, and made two saves in the first half.
The Panthers are back in action for a road contest at Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
