Nunez Leads #16 Women's Soccer to OT Win at Saint Anselm, 2-1

Manchester, N.H. - With her team trailing 1-0 late in the second half, senior Jeanine Nunez took matters into her own hands, scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals to lead the No.16 Adelphi University women's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory at Saint Anselm on Saturday afternoon.

Nunez, who named NE10 Player of the Week on Monday by the league office, tied the game at 1-1 in the 64th minute of the second half, taking a header from the middle of the box off a cross from Savannah Taylor, and later scored the Adelphi (4-0, 3-0 NE10) game-winner in the 93rd minute, taking a long ball from Taylor Sipos over the top and finishing at the far post.

After a 45-minute first half went by scoreless, Saint Anselm's Kiley Larocque scored the first goal of the contest by firing the ball past Isabel Sandstrom into the roof of the net from the left side of the box.

Prior to the first goal of the contest, Sandstrom made three saves to keep the Hawks (2-3, 0-3 NE10) off the board, including one just 25 seconds into the game. Her counterpart Elise Bouchard made four saves on Adelphi's six shots on goal in the game.

Adelphi managed just one shot on goal before Nunez's game-tying effort in the contest, as the Panthers were out-shot 7-2 in the first half before totaling 14 in the second half and overtime.

The Panthers are back in action at home in a Monday matinee on Sept. 18, welcoming the Bentley University Falcons to campus in a 3 p.m. NE10 contest.
