#3 Men's Soccer Trumps Saint Michael's, 5-0

Garden City, N.Y. -- Tying a season-high with five goals, the third-ranked Adelphi University men's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 decision against the Saint Michael's College Purple Knights in Northeast-10 Conference action on Motamed Field on Saturday afternoon.

Adelphi's leading scorer Andre De Giorgi once again had a hand in things for the Brown and Gold (4-0-1, 2-0 NE10), as he scored a pair of second half goals off the bench to raise his season total to nine. He joined Toni Soler, Joseph Sanchez and James Thristino on the statsheet in scoring, as the Panthers held a whopping 24-3 edge in shots over the Purple Knights (1-2-1, 0-2 NE10), 11-1 in shots on goal.

Soler scored the first goal of the contest off a free kick in the 12th minute, rifling a shot through to the back left corner of the box to break the ice in the game. Adelphi's lead doubled just one second into the 30th minute thanks to Thristino, who took an Alex Varkatzas cross into the back of the net to make it 2-0, a score which stood until halftime.

Adelphi's offensive pressure erupted in the second half, taking a total of 19 shots, three of which found the back of the net.

Sanchez recorded the third goal of the game for the Panthers, and first of the second half in the 60th minute, taking a Taylor Kaczynski cross and rifling the ball into net from 20 yards out, while De Giorgi scored a pair less than two minutes apart at the midway point of the half in short order to wrap up the scoring.

Brian Morgan relieved Joseph Blasetti in net and made the lone save of the day for Adelphi in just over 21 minutes of second-half action.

The Panthers are back in action at home on Wednesday, Sept. 20, when they host the University of New Haven at 7 pm.
