West Chester, Pa.- The Adelphi University field hockey team opened the 2017 season with a road trip to West Chester, Pennsylvania to face-off with the Golden Rams of West Chester University. In a match between a pair of NFHCA top 10 teams, the 10th-ranked Panthers (0-1) fell to the seventh-ranked Rams (0-1), 6-0 in a shutout match on Friday afternoon.
The first goal for the Golden Rams came from the stick of Mackenzie Mlkvy during the fifth minute off a corner from Rachel Toppi. Before the final goal of the half, West Chester's Toppi received a green card during the 17th minute, but quickly responded to net the fourth goal of the game with five minutes remaining in the first half.
Amanda Gargiulo had five saves for the Panthers in the first, but the Rams came out firing in the second to score their fifth goal of the game, and second for Kelly, just two minutes into the half. Adelphi held West Chester for another 20 minutes before the final goal of the contest was netted by Mlkvy, her second of the game.
