Boston, Mass. – Adelphi University senior
Joseph Catalanotti was selected 88
th overall by the New York Lizards in the tenth and final round of the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Draft, held on Sunday, May 28. Catalanotti joins a long line of Adelphi lacrosse players to move on and play at the professional level, most recently Jon English who was selected in the auxiliary round of the 2016 Supplemental Draft to Atlanta.
Catalanotti, a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Second Team All-American and ECAC Honorable Mention pick, anchored the Panther defense this season causing a team-leading 24 turnovers and grabbing 26 ground balls. He was chosen as one of two athletes from the Northeast-10 Conference, as Max Adler from Bentley University was chosen in the seventh round as the 61st overall pick.
The Massapequa Park, NY native is the seventh Adelphi player selected in the Major League Lacrosse draft, joining English, Sal Tuttle, Joe Vitale, Donny Moss, Michael Gongas and Wes Green. Tuttle was selected 69
th overall by the Rochester Rattlers in the eighth round in 2016 and Moss was a fifth round selection in 2009, going 39
th overall to Long Island Lizards. Gongas, also a Lizards selection, went 75
thoverall in 2007. Green was a Lizards selection in the 2006 MLL supplemental draft. Also playing in the MLL after selection by Ohio Machine from the player pool is faceoff specialist Gregory Puskuldjian.
